Server Migration Services
Server migration, moved and racked right.
ITDW Group handles the physical side of moving servers: documenting the current setup, de-racking, packing, transporting, re-racking, re-cabling and supporting your engineers as systems come back online, whether the move is across a hall, across town or across a border.
- Rack-to-rack or site-to-site
- Packing, transport & customs
- Re-rack, re-cable, power on
What is a physical server migration?
A physical server migration moves servers and their supporting equipment from one location to another: between racks in the same room, between cages or halls, between data centers, or into a new country. It is different from a data migration, which moves workloads and data over the network while the hardware stays where it is.
ITDW Group handles the hands-on work of a physical move and coordinates it with your team, who manage shutdown, data protection and application cut-over.
In shortYour team plans the cut-over. ITDW Group moves the hardware safely and gets it racked, cabled and powered at the destination.
What a server migration with ITDW includes
- Pre-move audit. Photos, serial numbers, rack positions and port maps recorded before anything is unplugged.
- De-racking and labeling. Cables and devices labeled so everything goes back exactly as it was, or to a new plan.
- Packing. Protective packing for servers, drives and network equipment suitable for the journey.
- Transport. Local moves or international shipping through Global IT Logistics, including customs where needed.
- Re-racking and re-cabling. Installation at the destination to the agreed rack elevation and cabling plan.
- Power-on support. Physical checks while your engineers bring systems back and confirm services.
How a server migration runs
- Scope the moveShare the source and destination sites, the equipment list, dates and any downtime limits.
- Plan and scheduleITDW confirms access at both sites, packing, transport and the order in which systems move.
- Move the hardwareTechnicians document, de-rack, pack, move, re-rack and re-cable the equipment.
- Bring it backSystems are powered on with your engineers, and you receive the move documentation.
How to reduce risk in a server migration
- Take and verify backups before the move, and agree who confirms each system is healthy afterwards.
- Move in waves so critical systems are not all offline at once.
- Record every cable before unplugging, and label both ends.
- Confirm power, cooling and network capacity at the destination before move day.
- For cross-border moves, start customs paperwork early. See Moving IT Infrastructure Across Borders.

Server migration FAQ
What is a physical server migration?
A physical server migration moves server hardware from one location to another, such as between racks, data centers or countries, including de-racking, packing, transport, re-racking and re-cabling.
What is the difference between a server migration and a data migration?
A data migration moves workloads and data over the network while hardware stays in place. A physical server migration moves the hardware itself. Many projects combine both, with ITDW Group handling the physical work.
Can ITDW Group move servers between countries?
Yes. ITDW Group can pack and ship servers internationally through its global IT logistics service, coordinate customs, and re-rack the equipment at the destination.
Do you document the setup before moving it?
Yes. Rack positions, serial numbers, cabling and port maps are recorded before the move so equipment can be reinstalled exactly as before or to a new plan.
